The CDESS® course at Vijfhart helps you improve energy efficiency and environmental sustainability of data centres without compromising availability or manageability. You learn why sustainability has become a core requirement in modern data centre operations, what regulations and climate goals are driving change, and how you translate these into practical decisions on the facility and its infrastructure. This is valuable if youre responsible for reducing energy use, improving reporting, or making sustainability improvements that still support uptime and operational control.
You build a solid understanding of environmental and energy management standards and how they apply to data centres. The course connects international climate treaties to real-world requirements and shows you how to work with sustainable performance metrics in a data centre context. You learn how to set up measurement, monitoring, and reporting of energy usage, and how to use power efficiency indicators across different data centre designs. You also cover best practices for energy savings in the electrical and mechanical (cooling) infrastructure, as well as for ICT equipment and data storage, plus the essentials of water management, waste management, and options for using sustainable energy.
You work with practical examples and improvement scenarios that mirror common challenges in existing and new data centres. You translate standards into concrete actions, choose relevant metrics, and create a simple approach for ongoing monitoring and reporting. You also get practical tips and innovative ideas you can apply quickly so you leave with a clear plan to make sustainability measurable, manageable, and continuous in your own environment.
After completing the course, you will be substantively prepared for the EPI exam. You will receive an EXIN Anywhere exam voucher, allowing you to take the online exam within twelve months, at a time and place that suit you best. The EPI certification is internationally recognized and valid for three years.
